Red Wing, Minnesota
The
population of Red Wing, Minnesota, is approximately 18,000. It
is primarily an industrial city, manufacturing being the main economic
activity, with retail trade and services for agriculture and industry
also of importance. Churches of all denominations are centrally
located and open to all resident-guests. Medical facilities consist
of one affiliated with the Fairview System and one hospital,
both staffed with well-qualified physicians and surgeons. The Mayo
Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, is an hour's drive from Red Wing.
Red Wing is a picturesque town situated on the Mississippi River. It offers many excellent recreational opportunities. The Mississippi River and Lake Pepin, with boating, skiing, swimming, fishing, and skating, are great attractions. Barn Bluff and Sorin Bluff are favorite hiking and picnicking areas. Colvill Park, with a large municipal swimming pool, also has boating and picnicking facilities. Several eighteen-hole golf courses are situated in the gently rolling hills of the Red Wing area. The beautiful Cannon Valley Bicycle Trail winds its way through the grounds of the Anderson Center and is available to residents of the Center. Red Wing is also home to the Sheldon Theatre, Goodhue County Historical Museum, and the Red Wing Arts Association. The Prairie Island Casino is a short driving distance from the Anderson Center and is open 24 hours a day seven days a week.
