Each year the Center hosts a variety of educational and cultural activities, from conferences and celebrations to readings and lectures. Special events include the bi-annual art celebrations, and a Celebration of Minnesota Children's Authors and Illustrators.
The Center also presents the annual A.P. Anderson Award for Outstanding Contributions to Literature and the Arts in Minnesota. The 2009 A.P. Anderson Award recipient is nationally recognized storyteller, performer and playwright Kevin Kling. He joins a stellar group of past recipients including Jim Brandenburg, world-renowned wildlife photographer, 2008; Warren MacKenzie, Master Potter and Teacher, 2007; Lise Houlton, Artistic Director of the acclaimed Minnesota Dance Theatre, 2006; Philip Brunelle, conductor, coral scholar and performer, 2005; Betsy Bowen, children's author and illustrator, 2004; Patricia Hampl, poet/memoirist, 2003; Siah Armajani, sculptor/public artist, 2002; Libby Larsen, nationally recognized composer 2001; Joe Dowling, artistic director of the Guthrie Theater, 2000; Robert Bly and William Duffy, founders of the influential Fifties Press, 1999.

July 11: 10th Annual Summer Celebration of the Arts, 12 - 7 pm. Featuring over 85 artists, writers, and musicians. Open studios, artist demonstrations, poetry readings, book signings, musical entertainment, hands-on activities for children, food and cash bar. A fun-filled day for the entire family!
September 12: 10th Annual Celebration of Minnesota Children's Authors and Illustrators, 12:30-5 pm. A wonderful FREE event for children and families! Meet some of Minnesota's finest authors and illustrators, book sales and signings, readings, slide presentations, story telling, marble playing, book making, magic, face painting, balloons, ice cream, puppets, stilts, creative activities and more!
September 25 - November 20: Legacies: Photographs by Petronella J. Ytsma. Public reception and exhibition opening on September 25.
October 23: Reading and Book Signing with acclaimed Minnesota author Patricia Hampl.
December 12: Holiday Celebration of the Arts, 12 - 7 pm. Highlighting the work of over 50 artists, writers and musicians. Open studios, tours, artist demonstrations, readings, music, food and cash bar. Unique Holiday gift buying opportunities!
January 22 : Anderson Center 15th Anniversary Exhibition. Public reception, open studio and gallery opening.

2009 - 2010
Ongoing Glassblowing Sessions: Beginning and Intermediate Glassblowing Classes with Gail Dahlberg. Learn techniques of gathering, marvering, blocking, and blowing molten glass. www.gaildahlbergglass.com
Beginning Glassblowing: Students will learn to blow their own forms and to assist other glassblowers. No prerequisite necessary.

Introduction to Printmaking: Woodcut, Lino-cut and Intaglio.
This unique one day workshop teaches the basic methods of developing a finished print in woodcut, lino-cut or intaglio. Taught by Anderson Center artist and printmaker Art Kenyon.
