( https://www.universe.com/events/energy-education-center-guided-walking-tour-with-rich-huelskamp-mark-ryan-tickets-ML1FNP?buttonColor=#9a9865&buttonText=REGISTER NOW! )\nJoin educators Rich Huelskamp and Mark Ryan as they share the history, stories, and pioneering accomplishments of the Red Wing Energy Education Center (1977-1988) on a one hour guided outdoor walking tour of the Tower View estate on Saturday, July 11th at 11:00 a.m. Register now as space is limited in order to ensure physical distancing. A second tour is also being offered later the same day at 1:00 p.m. Tour groups meet in front of Tower View Barn 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the tour.\nIn 1975, the heirs of A.P. Anderson conveyed the entire Tower View Estate to the Nature Conservancy. A few years later, in 1977, the Nature Conservancy conveyed Tower View to the Red Wing School District, which established the Red Wing Energy Education District with support from the State of Minnesota. The school’s vision for its program was comprehensive and included applied research in energy efficiency, alternative energy systems, and continuing education for technicians and educators.  While the Energy Education Center provided different educational experiences for students at all levels, the school specialized in post-secondary technical career preparation.\nCareer programs were offered in:\n• Energy Management and Conservation Technology\n• Solar and Wind Energy Systems Technology\n• Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning and Related Solar Technology\n• Alternative Energy Information\n• Biomass Conversion Technology\n• Agri-Business Energy Systems\nNeedless to say, the Energy Education Center was an endeavor ahead of its time. Despite its brief lifetime, the program made an indelible mark on its students and a lasting legacy on sustainability efforts in Red Wing and the region. It was also during this period that A.P. Anderson’s original laboratories were remodeled and a two-story classroom building was erected between the large lab and the Tower View Barn. On this guided walking tour, Huelskamp and Ryan provide first-hand insight and knowledge into this exciting period of Tower View’s history.\n\nRich Huelskamp has over 25 years of supporting, educating, and assisting homeowners/business owners as well as Minnesota’s energy industry professionals. He has coordinated engineering projects and educational programs for the Minnesota State Energy Office and Red Wing Energy Education Center. Rich has served on the Boards of the Minnesota Renewable Energy Society, Twin Cities Energy Engineers, Moorhead State University Energy Program, Minnesota’s Environmental Education Advisory Board, and Minnesota’s Energy Education Association. Rich received his BS in Physics and Mathematics from Winona State University and attended the University of Minnesota’s Mechanical Engineering Program.\nMark Ryan is a retired teacher and educational consultant that taught at the Red Wing Energy Education Center. He earned his Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction, science education and M.Ed. from University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and holds a B.S. in forest resources, environmental assessment from University of Washington-Seattle. Mark is a former Red Wing School Board member and served one term on Red Wing City Council. He has also volunteered on the human rights commission, energy conservation consultant/Planning Commission Energy Committee, as a Boy Scout leader, a soccer coach and referee for YMCA, and football/softball coach for community education youth sports.\nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. Thanks to this funding, the Anderson Center is able to offer tickets on a pay-what-you-can basis. All ticket sales will go to support work offering artistic programming in the Red Wing community.\nThe use of face masks is strongly encouraged! ASL interpretation is available upon request.
