SUMMARY:Exhibition: Soil to Soil
DESCRIPTION:Soil to Soil: Growing Regional Textiles is co-presented by Three Rivers Fibershed and the Anderson Center. This exhibition shares ideas, processes, and garments developed by farmers, spinners, designers, and makers who are working towards regenerative regional textile systems. The show features five shawls or similar garments that have been made by Minnesota & Wisconsin artisans using nearby fibers, dyes, spinning processes, and production techniques.\nSoil to Soil weaves together cultural objects, images, and information to highlight the practices and labor that go into sustainable garment production. It also offers a small textile and dye boutique for those who want to include more regional products in their own practices.\nThree Rivers Fibershed is a local affiliate of the national Fibershed organization, organizing and supporting soil stewards and fiber makers within a 175-mile radius of Minneapolis. Fibershed envisions textile systems in which the impact of our fibers is considered from a soil-to-soil perspective. These soil-to-soil systems create just local economies that honor all who participate centering on local labor, local fiber, and local natural dyes. Their mission is to abolish unjust textile systems and create in their place strong, decentralized textile economies that build from the resources within our own communities.\nSoil to Soil: Growing Regional Textiles includes garments by Josie Cooke, Tyne Hanft, Riley Kleve, Lindsey Maher, Emily Myatt, and Natalie Reece; photographs by Margie O’Loughlin and Lily Turner; and contributions from Maddy Bartsch, Rachel Schindler, and Andrea Seifert. The exhibition runs October 21, 2023 – January 20, 2024. Event photo by Paige Green Photography.\nAbout the Venue\nAnderson Center Galleries are free to the public and open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gallery One is on the lower level of the main building and is fully wheelchair accessible via an elevator. If you have questions about the accessibility of Anderson Center facilities or programs, please contact us!\nThis exhibit is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through an Operating Support grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.\n
