SUMMARY:Mississippi Dialogues Project Premiere and Red Wing Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us Saturday, October 3, from 2–4 pm as we launch the Mississippi Dialogues Project with the premiere installation in Colvill Park, Red Wing, Minnesota, in the cottonwood trees adjacent to Pavilion #4. Remarks shortly after 2 p.m., followed by visiting and snacks.\nMississippi Dialogues is a collaborative public art project elevating Indigenous experience and knowledge of the Mississippi River, with cartographic installations along the River from mouth to headwaters.\nThe Red Wing installation features wood artwork by artist Ben Spears (Red Lake Nation) and cartographic artwork by Margaret Pearce (Citizen Potawatomi and Anderson Center Public-Artist-in-Residence), with words by knowledge holders from Prairie Island Indian Community and Ho-Chunk Nation.\nMade possible through the collaborative partnership with Prairie Island Indian Community Tribal Historic Preservation Office, Ho-Chunk Nation Cultural Resources Division, and Anderson Center at Tower View.\n\nVenue & Accessibility\nThis event is held at Colvill Park Pavilion #4, northeast of the pickleball courts. Nearest parking is adjacent to the pickleball courts and the Sister Cities garden in the park, with a path leading down to the installation site and pavilion from the Sister Cities Garden. The Pavilion has a flat cement base, and the Mississippi Dialogues installation itself is immediately adjacent to an accessible path. The route between the path and the pavilion is flat grass.\nSeating will be at city-owned picnic tables at the pavilion. Sound amplification will be used for any formal remarks.\nFor additional accessibility information or to request interpretation or other accomodations,\nSupport\nThis project has been supported by funding from the Minnesota State Arts Board, Red Wing Shoe Foundation, Blandin Foundation, Guggenheim Foundation, Creative Capital, Anonymous Was a Woman, and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.\n
