Jenna Fischtrom Beacom is a longtime deaf activist / advocate, who co-founded the #DeafInMedia project, an initiative to increase authentic representation of deaf people in the media. She holds a Master’s degree in Deaf Education from the University of Minnesota and lives with her husband & daughter in Columbus, Ohio.
At the Anderson Center, Jenna revised her manuscript for “SIGNS & PORTENTS,” the YA novel she wishes she’d had when she was a newly deaf teenager. She is grateful for the time and opportunity at the Anderson Center to focus a final draft within close proximity to other Deaf artists with a range of life experiences that can help provide nuance as she wrote.
