The application is preprogrammed to close at noon on the final day of submissions. We cannot reopen it once it has closed, and we cannot accept any applications outside of the online application form. Please do not wait until the last day to submit your application. The submission portal does not care if your clock said you had two more minutes. Please allow enough time for your payment to process if you are submitting an application with an application fee. Payment processing may be slower if many payments are submitted at the same time.
These two residencies have separate eligibility requirements, separate funding sources, and separate selection panels. One application cannot be shared by both panels. You are welcome to use the same answers to questions which are the same on both applications and submit the same work samples, but you will need to enter them into each application to be considered for more than one residency.
Collaborations are possible but rare. Each person in the collaborative must fill out a separate application and indicate in the application they are applying with the intention to collaborate. There is a place in the form for this information. You may use the same work samples and statements on each application if you choose.
Anderson Center does not provide scholarships for residency travel or other costs you may incur by choosing to attend, such as childcare, pet care, or shipping of artwork or supplies.
Anderson Center will provide you with a letter of invitation that you can use when you apply for a visa.
Arrival dates are not flexible. All artists must arrive before 4p.m. on arrival day. Orientation, tours, and welcome dinner are only held on arrival day. We strongly discourage leaving early or being away from the residency overnight. If you have a commitment related to the work you will be doing in residence that requires this, please contact staff to discuss it. We want selected artists to be able to take full advantage of the time and space offered by the residency program.
The jury panel selects a cohort for each month and a waiting list for each month before the finalists are notified. If you decline the dates offered to you, you can ask to be placed on the waiting list for another month in the same year. You would only be moved up from the waiting list if an artist in that month declines and a spot becomes available. If no opening becomes available in the same year you will need to reapply in the next cycle.
Anderson Center does not have kilns or ceramics facilities at this time. If your ceramics practice allows you to work without a kiln and to bring everything you need with you, we could provide you with one of our visual arts studios.
The residence, studio workspaces, and public spaces at Tower View have wi-fi that should be fast enough for most artists’ needs. If your practice requires extra high speeds or you are concerned about being able to complete your work, please contact staff to discuss specifics.
Yes. Writers are artists. All types of writers are eligible to apply.
No, for the privacy of the other artists, there are no visitors allowed in the residence. They may visit other public spaces on the Tower View Campus, and they should plan to stay in a hotel or other accommodations and to eat meals off site.
No, we do not collect feedback on individual applications from each member of the jury panel, so we cannot provide you with details that would be useful for you. The panel members are different each year which means that each time you apply you have a clean slate and a panel which could have different opinions or impressions than in previous application cycles.
