Fabric/Textiles
Becca McCharen-Tran is a social practice artist and fashion designer trained as an architect. Based in Miami, Florida, the garments they design at future-forward bodywear label Chromat change the way people see themselves. Becca’s collaborations, from Beyoncé to the MIT design lab, have demonstrated how textiles and garments can convey emotions and be a catalyst for social impact and challenging hegemonic systems.
At the Anderson Center, Becca explored Red Wing’s abundant freshwater biome for lessons on adaptation and perseverance as they work to create textiles collaged from reclaimed materials that offer climate optimism and visualize abundant and interconnected futures. During their residency, Becca creatively engaged with Clean River Partners to amplify their mission of water protection.
