Aliki Barnstone worked on a book of poems entitled “Hummingbird Home” during her residency. Many of the poems in the book are based on visual art, so the permanent collection of visual art, the sculpture garden, and studio artists on site at the Anderson Center all have appeal as a setting to work on the book. Barnstone’s work often deals with the history and with the present moment as it is shaped by history. We are always in dialogue with the past, the present, and our collective hope for the future. “Hummingbird Home” explores the physical structure and the idea of home, at both the cultural and the personal levels.
