New York, NY
October 2023, three weeks
Cherrie Yu works with film, video, and choreography to reveal the ways in which the ordinary and the spectacular are often entangled. Based in New York City, Cherrie’s study of human movement is central to her practice. Working in collaboration with people who appear in her films—from artists of the past viewed through archival footage to people she encounters on the street—Cherrie develops meaning in shared time.
At Anderson Center, Cherrie edited recently filmed collaborative performances pieces and found footage documentaries, as well as composing them into an installation for a gallery setting. During her residency Cherrie lead a movement workshop with residents at Downtown Plaza in Red Wing
