Emily H. Freeman

Emily H. Freeman worked on a nonfiction piece about her late great-aunt, Winifred Cecil, a noted American opera soprano. Ms. Cecil led an intriguing life at a historically significant time, as an American living and performing in Italy during WWII.  Although Freeman is primarily a writer of fiction, she was drawn to exploring the life and career of Ms. Cecil, due to her interest in this noteworthy character in her family’s history, and because of her longstanding interest in opera, both the music and the subculture that surrounds it. The end product goal was to complete an extended essay. Emily’s work has appeared in the Best New American Voices anthology, The Morning News, the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune, and elsewhere.
