Textiles
Erin Christianson Peña creates three-dimensional, free-standing sculptures from woven beads and threads. They are primarily self-taught and from the beginning their work has been driven by a spirit of exploration. They love to learn new techniques and then think of different ways to apply those techniques, trying to create beaded shapes that no one ever has before. Viewed over time, their work has gone from small trinket boxes to large, geometrically complex sculptures, and with every new piece they try something different or improve on an older idea.
During this residency, they will experiment with the possibilities of kinetic shapes in beadwork and create blueprints and prototypes for new applications of these shapes in beaded sculpture.
Erin Christianson Peña will lead a beading workshop at the Red Wing Public Library.
