Johnson’s practice begins with drawing. Over the last decade she has built an imagined visual cosmology populated by humanoid figures, alien deities, worm forms, and cryptic symbologies. World building sits at the heart of how I work, exploring technology and flesh, both ancient and futuristic. Much of my imagery borrows from science fiction, ancient or alien architecture, speculative technologies, and social systems of control. I view my drawings as suggestive fragments of an alien culture running parallel to our own. From drawing, the world extends outward into collaborations in animation, textiles, VR, fulldome film, and installation environments.
