Jillian Conrad

Sculpture, Mixed Media Installations

Colorado Springs, CO
June 2005, four weeks

In her work, Jillian Conrad uses sculpture to excavate the natural world and our everyday surroundings, searching out what is hidden and beautiful. She uses materials and objects close at hand, such as wood, wax, and cardboard, to make a connection between our outer, physical lives and our inner, emotional lives.

She used the residency to prepare for a solo show in 2006 that centered on caves. She chose caves as her focus because they are intense physical and psychological spaces. They are the result of slow, invisible geologic processes, and a living metaphor for human experience.
