Born in Guatemala and living across the US since his twenties, Urbina belongs to neither place. In the US, he must explain his origins; within Latin American communities, he remains a minority within a minority. Returning to Guatemala, his accent, clothing, and experience mark him as foreign, a hidden immigrant. Art becomes his home. Informed by Homi K. Bhabha’s Third Space, Urvina creates process-oriented installations using every day, edible materials shaped by memory, transformation, repetition, and viewer proximity, where making becomes an impermanent site of belonging.
