Music / Composition
May Klug is an experimental electronic composer/performer who works primarily with synthesizer, feedback, and voice. In her work, the deep relationships with audio equipment and electronic instruments are a bridge through which to explore the networks of technological development, industry, and modern social life. Her performances blend electroacoustic experimentalism with the theater of pop, queer performance art, and high-femme fashion. Her practice has been shaped by my time studying with her mentors, particularly composers Paula Matthusen and Alvin Lucier. Klug produces experimental music and queer art events in the Twin Cities, often with the Dykes 2 Watch Out 4 Collective.
Klug’s current writing projects are an avant-pop project using synthesizers, composing a piece for Zeitgeist Ensemble, and composition for an electroacoustic chamber ensemble titled Beautiful Woman Ensemble. This piece will consist of performers with acrylic nails tapping on the amplified chassis of vintage audio equipment, specifically individual units of rack gear.
May Klug will offer a concert of her music at the Hastings Arts Center
