Mixed Media
Mayowa Nwadike, a mixed-media artist, delves into human identity, gender roles, and self-discovery. Using acrylic, charcoal, and coffee on canvas, his art transitions from abstraction to realism, exploring the interplay of symbolism, colors, and emotions. With meticulous attention, Mayowa captures unspoken emotions, challenging societal norms and urging viewers to perceive the emotional, psychological, and symbolic layers within each piece. Inspired by personal experiences and keen observations of human behavior, his paintings reflect the impact of traditions and societal norms on emotional struggles, triumphs, and ambiguities, inviting viewers to introspect on their own lives.
During his residency, Nwadike focused on creating a series of paintings that merge medieval Roman art with contemporary African aesthetics. These artworks aim to redefine the portrayal of women as symbols of power, challenging traditional gender norms.
Nwadike lead a workshop in partnership with Lake City Area Arts Association.
