Ex Libris, a film tracing the intricate world Hacker’s grandfather created and lost in early 20th century Vienna, and the exploding world he recorded in his diaries, will be her third family memoir. Hacker’s project is illuminating the intersections between private family stories, passed down via osmosis and whisper, and public histories. She is drawn to documentary film out of curiosity about how people live, the choices made, issues of memory, family, loss, identity, and the wonder of immersing myself in research; to gather materials and assemble, re-assemble, write, and structure diverse elements into a cohesive and meaningful whole.
