Migiwa Miyajima is a New York based, Japanese origin composer, Grammy nominated producer, pianist and the leader of the 17 piece Miggy Augmented Orchestra. She specializes in ensemble compositions that narrate real-life stories. Her work uniquely captures the unspoken dialogues of the mind through harmonies influenced by modern jazz and Japanese scales. Surviving the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake profoundly shaped Miyajima’s life and mission: it highlighted the healing power of music. Driven by this realization, she aspires to create a world where people live fully and joyously, using music as a tool to heal and uplift in life.

In addition to working on The War Destroyed My Dreams, But Not My Voice, a 60-minute-long performance of her nine-movement suite during this residency, Miyajima shared her music at Hastings Arts Center. The presentation was live streamed on the Hastings Arts Center YouTube channel. https://www.youtube.com/@hastingsartscenter/streams
