In her writing, Montana seeks to capture the magnitude of the moments in our lives and examine the smallness of our experience thereby connecting to a universal perspective. Her current book of creative nonfiction, Stay Where I Can See You, does just this as she explores the lives of the women in her family over four generations. An excerpt from this book appeared in the Fall 2023 issue of Shenandoah Literary Magazine, and another excerpt has been accepted to Con Corazón en la Mano: Writing From the Heartland, an anthology published by the Minnesota Historical Press.
At the Anderson Center Nicole worked on the draft of her book Stay Where I Can See You and lead a workshop at the Red Wing Correctional Facility.
