Twisting, bending, curling and cutting. These are the motions Furlong uses to manipulate strips of paper to create her art. This creative process is known as quilling, an art form dating back to the Renaissance era. Furlong says, “As an artist and crafter, discovering quilling has given me the creative freedom to blend my two passions. Craft brings precision in the detail work while art frees me to explore and imagine. Quilling is unknown to many people and in order to keep traditional art forms alive, it’s been important for me to create work that is engaging while keeping with its origins”.
Furlong lead a workshop in partnership with Lake City Area Arts Association.
