Rehab El Sadek is an Egyptian artist of Sudanese ancestry whose career has spanned over 25 years. Using mediums such as sound, photography, sculpture, and the written word, her work explores issues related to immigration, belonging, communication, and language. In 2017, she was named the City of Austin’s first artist-in-residence, exploring environmental and social issues embedded in a city department.
At Anderson, Rehab experimented with new materials and the role of written language/Arabic writing in creating architectural structures that invite viewers to question existing power dynamics and contemplate the role of individuals—especially the marginalized. During her residency, Rehab lead a collaborative placemaking activity with art students at Red Wing High School.
