Book Arts
Wendy Withrow makes unique and editioned artist books as a way to process her experience of daily life as a parent, partner, friend, neighbor, citizen, and steward. Working with traditional book materials, she creates dynamic, moveable structures. Her work draws on her background in sculptural ceramics and influences of contemporary dance and origami. Withrow’s books are small and intimate but tackle global and political topics such as gun violence in American schools, the 24-hour news cycle, and climate change. She wants people to relate her work to their own lives, recognize familiar emotions, and connect to our universal experience as humans.
Withrow will use the residency to grow and finish projects for an exhibition. She will give an artist talk in partnership with Lake City Area Arts Association.
